Well, here we are kids, the finished result. Fab or what?
It wasn’t what I thought it would be, even with all the excessive planning, however, I think it turned out even better. I’m going to be biased, of course, but you really can’t fault this garment, it’s edgy yet extremely elegant, no?
I’m really chuffed that on the final decisions we let gold be the colour to pull the garment together. Sure we could’ve gone with a casual grey or charcoal ribbing fabric to tone it down, making it understated but being that it was something that held sentimental value, I couldn’t let that happen. It had to pop, just like the gold in the Chinese brocade, so we went all out. Being that this piece is so unusual by portraying elements of a kimono due to the length and cut of the collar to then being fashioned together like a bomber jacket, every aspect was so well thought out making it very special.
The sparkly ribbing fabric was a great choice but ideally probably not the best we could’ve gone with as it was taken from a top. We couldn’t find any sort of desirable gold ribbing fabric that upon chance we came across a top on Amazon that was made in a ‘ribbing’ style, therefore we went for it. The downside of it all making it not so ideal was that the fabric the top was made out of was quite saggy. When you use a purpose made ribbing fabric it holds structure and quality, the fabric from the top had quality but didn’t have structure. We went for it anyway and I think it definitely works. Yes, there isn’t tough structure in place but I’m ok that there isn’t because it gives the jacket a softness. Also, I just couldn’t deny my absolute need for gold cuffs, collar, and bottom that this was the only option and we had to make it work and I believe we did.
Without a doubt, Carolina has blown this one right out of the park. I think it suits me perfectly, it’s detailed, sassy yet delicate. Again, there is no possibly way I could ever show how incredibly grateful I am for having this made, however, a desirable bunch of peonies and a beautiful card helps, right?
Please do let me know what you think. This isn’t a post I had planned in the pipeline so I would be eager to learn what you all think of this as I am (and I quote from Twilight) unconditionally and irrevocably in love, with this jacket!
