I really hope I’m not the only one that does this.
So, Christmas and new years has come and gone and I know I’m one of many that has gotten a bit of the flu. I look and feel gross and it’s been a good couple of days where I haven’t worn make up or washed my hair. So gross.
When I get like this, especially when I’m dealing with my medical ‘issues’ I try and doll myself up; hence why I’m saying, I hope i’m not the only one who does this! I think it’s pretty lame and kinda pathetic, but if it makes me feel just a teeny weeny bit better I’m all for it.
Today is one of those days. I haven’t slept well in a while and this ‘flu’ is messing with my vision so I’ve been wearing my ugly glasses too. I sound pretty vain, I suppose I can be but when you’re looking at a make up-less version of yourself for a longish period of time, you kinda wanna do something about it! I’m quite insecure anyways so yeah…
I just want to share with you what I do to ‘glam’ myself up when I’m feeling my worst.
I should probably start with the fact that I’m a regular fake tanner (obviously if I’m really ill I wont bother, but for this purpose I have previously tanned) so that helps! Obviously when you’ve got flu you can look a little grey/dull. With fake tanning it helps to cover that up and therefore gives you colour. However if you haven’t been sleeping, fake tan doesn’t cover up those big ol’ bags under your eyes. For this I’ve previously invested in a good concealer, I’m not much of a great sleeper anyways so I’m always dealing with dark circles and puffiness. Soooooo, if you haven’t already got a good concealer I’d recommend Nars’ creamy concealer. Its quite thick but not cakey and is suitable for under the eyes. There’re other similar products on the market such as Rimmels wake me up concealer and Collections lasting perfections concealer but from experience I’d rather pay for Nars’ as I think the colour range and consistency is a lot better.
I’d also suggest you looking into a good eye cream, the skin under and around your eyes is a lot thinner so regular moisturiser will just not do the job. Before I go to bed and when I wake up I use Olay’s instant hydration eye cream, it’s soothing, gentle and has done wonders for me. It’s also ‘anti-wrinkle’ too! I’ve been using it for quite a while and I’ve noticed quite a difference, its great.
When doing foundation I’d suggest a dewy finish. I prefer a dewy finish anyways but I feel I always seem more alive and a little bit more healthier looking, which is what you want to be aiming for when you’re feeling/looking rough. The foundation I’d suggest is Nars’ sheer glow foundation, or for a cheaper option, Bourjois’ healthy mix foundation is considered a good dupe. I’m so happy with the sheer glow range and I’m just a bit of a Nars fan girl in general, they’re brilliant products so I’m happy to pay.
Then on with the rest of the face. I do bronzer as usual and when it comes to the cheeks I’d suggest a cream blush to compliment the dewy look. I use the Laura Mercier creme cheek in rosebud. Its been a great product to use and as I thrive for the dewy look its very complimentary. Cream blushes can also be used as lip products too, therefore if you don’t want to invest like I have you can also go for a drugstore brand or even try a pigmented lip balm.
Today I chose to continue with mascara, brows and highlighter as I was feeling particularly gross. Also, because I wasn’t going out anywhere special other than running out and doing a few tasks I shoved on some lazy clothes. Technically they are probably classed as pjs but I really don’t care. My ‘leggings’ are from Sainsburys and are part or a pyjama set and comes with a matching top but I chose to wear a long sleeved grey top which is just a casual basic.
When I’m feeling this gross I like to wear stuff that is quite forgiving so although the leggings are fairly tight fitted the top is loose. I aim to try and mask my thighs, belly and bum. Those are my scary areas. I’m pear shaped too, so thats where I’m my biggest! My main priority is to cover my stomach as thats where I am most insecure, I find that my grey top glides of my stomach perfectly you can’t even notice the christmas dinners!
To top off my indoor casual, comfy outfit I topped it off with my Ikea slippers. They’re so unusual and so comfy. Its like having sleeping bags on your feet, so cosy. These were a tenner down to five quid, bargain. Also, I will just say, when I went out I wore my grey, long coat from Zara (to disguise the ‘pj’ look) and my pink striped scarf and then some appropriate footwear, otherwise I would’ve gotten some dodgy looks!
I hope this was some what interesting and helpful! It might be something to consider when you’re feeling just as gross as I am. Also, this is perfect for when you’re hungover too!
