I am absolutely in love with making pretty things… not so pretty? I don’t really know what the right word is to describe what I’m getting at but I just like making ‘girly’ things a bit grunge. So, when I saw this floral dress with a matching slip I thought it was a challenge I was happy to accept.
I firstly got rid of the matching slip, then substituted it for a black bodysuit. Kinda all, done, finished really? Although we definitely need to address the belt. This is a belt I never normally wear but it’s so amazing. As I’ve said before, I think it was many moons ago but I gave up on looking pristine for a while, hence why no outfit posts were anywhere to be seen. I’d normally wear this belt with my bright cobalt blue jumpsuit that would never stay up but I haven’t worn that for a very long time. However, when I did do an outfit post featuring that specific jumpsuit and belt combo, it did do pretty well. It’s that damn belt, isn’t it? Anyways, here it is again, really pulling this outfit together. I bought this dress in a size 12 to compensate for my thighs and arse so around my waist it is quite roomy. That’s when belts can be your best friend and this one has not only done wonders in creating some shape but its ‘grunge’ design gives this outfit a

With it being such a pretty dress, wearing flats is a winner. I went with flats, not only because I prefer to strive for comfort but because I don’t think it’s predictable. I can imagine the majority of people would glam this up with heels. It wouldn’t necessarily look awful just not a possibly everyday summer look, instead a dress only brought for evening attire.
The flats I chose are however, pretty flats and the pompoms give it a soft but current feel, also a bit fun and sporty too. Although they are pretty and pink flats, it does, with the dress make the belt stand out. I’d be inclined to pull some more darker colours into the mix to finish this outfit off by opting for a dark coloured bag and/or if a bit nippy, a leather like biker jacket. I would really try and manipulate this outfit and contradict it with trying things that are maybe opposite sides of the spectrum and create a piece that is edgy yet pretty.
I don’t really know where I sit with make up. My go to thing, especially at the weekend is a relatively strong contour, mascara, bronzer shadow smoked under the eye and then faux freckles as per usual. I then resort to tying my hair into a low ponytail emphasising my medium hoop earrings that I”ve been leaning towards. Possibly a bit much and at times I’m not sure whether I’m comfortable with that look but its relatively easy and kinda statementy, in my eyes. I only really do that if I’m feeling creative, confident and fancy making an effort.
Let me know what you think of this look and how I’ve styled this dress. How would you style this? Am I bonkers? I can probably answer that one for you but I am so very curious to know what YOU might think, especially as this is my first outfit post I’ve done in a long while, so YOUR opinion matters… to a certain extent.
